It’s an absolute dream to finally get across the line and win the national..we’ve had a good few near misses over the last few years so to win both races on the same day is a dream come
True. Firstly the old hen who actually beat the young cock clear which is remarkable in a mixed race at this stage of the season it’s almost unheard of to hear of the old birds beating the youngsters.
I was gutted this week after going in to the loft on Tuesday night to find her eggs hadn’t hatched and she had left them and would not take to a youngster. She was in fantastic condition and I needed to motivate her so I decided to put her back into the old bird loft to spend the night before basketing with her widowhood cock from earlier on in the old bird season. She’s a game hen with previous prizes and has shown her guts with her first race being on the 19th April and she’s raced pretty much every week since with a few nasty channel crossings along the way. She is a gift bird bred across the border by Gary Green so thank you mate you’re a gent.
Now to the youngsters this stunning blue cock has been our most consistent youngster this year always being in the first drops to the loft. I picked him out early doors as his type is absolutely perfect and luckily he has a brain to match 👌 I’m Delighted to say he’s bred from an inbred son of our wonder hen Skyfall so it’s fitting to see her progeny finally get over the line after being close so many times! The mother was purchased last year from Brian Smith and Bob being from their super hen holmstar who if I remember correctly topped section L twice and was 3 times in the top 10 of the open in the NFC which is outstanding in this day and age.
It’s strange really our youngsters are just being left to their own devices as we are so busy on the farm at the moment they have an open loft and haven’t been trained for weeks. It just shows top health, top pigeons and a love of home ❤️ I would like to thank everyone for their calls and messages congratulations us and to the mnfc for the brilliant condition of the birds on arrival with full returns.
